its so nice to meet you

I was born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.  I'm a super NERD when it comes to math and never imagined I would be a photographer when I grew up.  I went to college and got a degree in Computer Science and mathematics, but God had other plans for me.  I picked up my first camera in college & shortly after I graduated I decided to pursue this 'hobby' of mine that brought me so much joy - and - I never looked back.

I've done food photography for a local food magazine, shot commercial work for local businesses as well as national companies, photographed families, babies, senior portraits, and everything in between.  But my favorite thing to photograph, by far, is weddings & engagements.  There's just something about being around two people who really love each other & are so excited about their future together.  And of course, being able to celebrate the BEST DAY of their lives with them.

"Working with Amber felt like hanging out with an old friend! She made us feel so comfortable during our engagement shoot and knew exactly how to pose us to get a beautiful shot without being pushy! She is so down to earth and truly talented. My friends and family couldn’t believe our photos - they are so special to us and there is no one else we’d rather have as our wedding photographer!! We’d recommend Amber to anyone!"

frequently asked questions

schyne

how do you pronounce "schyne"?

why do you spell it like that?

It's pronounced exactly like the word 'shine', just spelled differently.  I got it from the verse Matt. 5:16 - "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

My last name is Schoniwitz, which would have been WAY too long to name my company.  So I wanted to add a personal touch by spelling SCHYNE with a nod to my family name

Traveling

I absolutely love to travel.  I've been able to visit at least 17 different countries over the past 10 years.  I've been lucky enough to shoot weddings in California almost once a year, and have shot a wedding as far as Spain.

youth ministry

A huge part of my life is the youth ministry I'm a part of at my church.  Shout out to my "the Way" kids.  The biggest perk is that I almost always have one of them assisting me at my shoots & even at some of my weddings.  It's a huge blessing to get to be a part of their lives.

hand lettering

Being a creative doesn't stop at photography, my other passion is definitely hand-lettering.  Chalk art is my favorite medium, but I often sketch a lot in my notebooks or design prints on my ipad.  Follow me on instagram if you would like to check that out.

food

specifically pretty food; specifically sushi.  But honestly i'm not too picky.  I definitely eat with my eyes and love going out to fancy eateries with beautiful dishes. I blame the years I got to shoot for a local food magazine: Waikiki Menus.

beach

Living in Hawaii is my favorite thing.  I feel so lucky to be from and work in one of the most beautiful places in the world.  I love being 15 minutes away from the beach & procrastination is a real problem on sunny summer days.

family

I have a brother and sister who both live in Oregon, and a niece/nephew on the way... we wont know until my sister gives birth in June.  My parents have been married for over 35 years and are the best parents ever.  They are my biggest supporters, and I couldn't be more thankful for them.
